Coming to Terms with Your Past: Coaching with Melessa (Episode 219)
In this episode of the Slow Living podcast, Melessa and I step into both the lighthearted and the deeply meaningful parts of personal growth—because real healing almost always includes both.
We begin with a fun moment in Melessa’s new home: her arcade room, a perfect nod to the place where she and her husband first met back in the 1980s.
From there, the conversation naturally moves into the emotions that come with moving—surprising family members with big news, settling into a new space, and noticing how major life decisions can still stir up the feeling that we need our parents’ approval, even well into adulthood.
We also talk about manifestation and how it has quietly shown up in Melessa’s life over the years — not as wishful thinking, but as intention paired with action.
As the session deepens, Melessa reflects on her “mirror homework”: standing in front of herself and saying, “There is nothing wrong with me.”
What sounded simple turned out to be surprisingly hard. That moment opens the door to a powerful discussion about family patterns, generational stories, and the narratives we inherit without realizing it.
Together, we explore old family photos, unspoken truths, hidden shame, and the lifelong urge to name what feels right — even when it’s uncomfortable.
Melessa shares honestly about the tension between loyalty and truth, and what it means to come to terms with your past without being defined by it.
This episode is a reminder that self-healing isn’t about fixing yourself—it’s about understanding yourself. When we look at our history with compassion and curiosity, we create space for growth, peace, and authenticity in the present.
