I’m not too dressy of a person…
I’m not sure about you, but now all of a sudden I am getting invited to events in which I need to get dressed up.
And this is new and somewhat uncharted territory for me.
Growing up, I remember arguing with my mom about needing to wear a dress on Sundays to church.
I simply didn’t want to.
I now have three daughters of my own — and they are ALL DIFFERENT.
Depending on their mood, sometimes I can get them to wear a dress or skirt, and sometimes the best I can do is to talk them into wearing “the nice jeans.”
🙂
The weird thing is, that now that I’m (gasp!) *older,* I actually am starting to really enjoy getting dressed up (once in a while. Mostly I try to live in pajama pants…) and have been searching for realistic “fancy” clothing that doesn’t cause me to feel like I’m wearing a costume.
My criteria for dresses are: comfortable (who knew how important this would be???), not low cut (I need to be able to tie a kid’s shoe), not too short (same thing with the kid shoe), and not be over $50.
Also, I am not a fan of In Real Life shopping. I am not a super big fan of dressing rooms and the flourescent lighting and the mirror so close that it shows all the things that I’m really trying hard to not notice/see…
BUT! I have found a wonderful line of dresses online that are working out REALLY well for me —
and they are modest, yet stylish, and do not break the bank.
So. Here you go:
Here is the direct link to the dress on Amazon (affiliate link).
When you get one (there are a MILLION colors), let me know which one you chose and how many compliments you received!!
PS: the dresses do come with a belt to go with. Also, many of the reviewers suggested getting a petticoat to fluff it out. I followed that advice and got one but on me it was too much — too fluffy. So now my kids are playing dress up and using it as a tutu.
I suggest sizing up. I’m 5ft and have an appropriate BMI and decided on a medium. The good news is that these dresses go all the way up to size 4x — so don’t automatically think that you won’t be able to fit into it.
I hope this helps a bit!!

Wow very pretty dresses it hard to narrow down which one to pick. I may have to go with a couple. Which color did you get ?
Thanks for the link

Hi Sue,
I got the one that I put in the photo — it is a creamy white and the fabric is a nice weight — smooths things out and not see-through. 😉
Love that dress! I’m also 5 ft definitely not my BMI but the description helps. I would have not bothered but you gave a great description so I will check it out. Thanks!
I have added 2 of these dresses to my Amazon shopping list. I normally by Lularoe Amelia dresses but these are sooooo cute and are a great price.
Just curious, length wise how is this dress? I love the style but need below the knee. At 5’6 I find most dresses are above.
Hi Robin, great question.
I just measured with a fabric tape measure from shoulder seam to hem — but it was still on a hanger so of course it will be shorter while on.
it came to 37 inches. 🙁 it might be too short then?
edited to add that I found this link about dress lengths: https://www.lollipuff.com/blog/433/dress-length-guide-mini-knee-floor-length-and-more
