Being Enough and Validation (Kelsea Session 3, part 2) Episode 202 of the Slow Living Podcast

 

In this week’s episode, Kelsea and I dig into something so many of us struggle with: letting “good enough” actually feel good enough.

Kelsea shares openly about her challenges with self-praise and how difficult it can be to celebrate progress without outside validation. 

We talk through habits that have become “rewards” (like binge eating or cannabis use) and why they don’t always bring the comfort or joy we hope for.

I remind Kelsea (and myself!) that real change takes time. She’s started the Couch to 5K program, which is such a fantastic step, and we spend time unpacking the emotions tied to stress eating, the temptation to move our own goalposts, and what it might feel like to look back on these first sessions once she’s further along.

This episode is all about progress, patience, and—most of all—self-compassion.

 

What’s Going Well

  • Kelsea noticed when she fell off track, but instead of staying there, she got right back on.

  • She’s stopping negative self-talk and mean inner dialogue before it takes over.

  • She planned out helpful phrases to use at upcoming social events.

  • She’s recognizing when she’s shifting her own goalposts and identifying it as self-sabotage.

  •  

What Needs Work

  • Deciding whether cannabis use is helpful or hindering her overall progress.

  • Giving herself more grace, unconditional acceptance, and love after slip-ups.

  • Allowing fun for fun’s sake, without needing to justify it as “productive.”

  • Being okay with not receiving outside props, accolades, or recognition.

  •
