Hi there pretty people, and happy Tuesday!
I have a fantastic interview and podcast episode for you today —
Emily Lynn Paulson is the author of “Hey Hun: Sales, Sisterhood, Supremacy, and the Other Lies Behind Multilevel Marketing“ — and she joined me for a very candid interview on how she got sucked into the online MLM world and then how she got out of it.
This was such a great conversation, and I immensely appreciate Emily’s honesty and candor — she likens the MLM world to being in a cult — and while that term seems rather harsh, she shares a ton of research and testimonials that back up this claim.
The fact is, adulting and motherhood is terribly isolating. While I was a bit incredulous (at first) that a well-educated woman with a great family and upbringing could “fall” for a “scam” —
It happens every day. Many, many, many times a day.
Slick marketing preys on vulnerability — it’s happened to me, and I’m certain it’s probably happened to you.
🙁
I urge you to take a listen to this conversation — even if you’ve never joined any sort of online direct-sales business nor would you ever imagine doing so.
Hopefully the more the word gets out about these types of predatory business models, the quicker they get shut down.
Emily’s book is a fun memoir that reads like fiction —
you can pre-order it now (releases in May) from Amazon, here.
If you’d like to hear more about this type of thing, I think you’d like a few past episodes that I’ve recorded —
since I’ve been online for as long as I have, I’ve got a lot to say about this kind of thing. 😉
episode 16: Matching your Identity to your Integrity
episode 44: Ignoring Influencers
episode 45: Part 1 with Kim Demmon
episode 46: Part 2 with Kim Demmon
episode 70: Sniffing out Scams with Ryan Lee
as always, I think you are wonderful.
Please take care of yourself and consider yourself loved and hugged.
