Review and Giveaway! “Fifty Shades of Kale” by Drew Ramsey, M.D. & Jennifer Iserloh

Monday, July 29th, 2013 by Lisa

fiftyshades

Monday, August 5, 2013.  This giveaway is now over.  Thank you Kale lovers!!!  The winner has been randomly chosen and notified by email.  Congratulations Paula!!!

Lisa Irvine writes at Lisa’s Blogety Blog. You can find her at @Lirvine98 on twitter. If you have an idea for a giveaway, please let her know!

Are you ready for a whole different kind of cookbook?  Do you like kale, but are tired of the same, old, boring kale chips?

“Fifty Shades of Kale: 50 Fresh & Satisfying Recipes That Are Bound to Please” by Drew Ramsey, M.D. & Jennifer Iserloh, will make you laugh as well as teach you how to make delicious kale dishes!

Now, just to let you know, I haven’t read those other “50 Shades” books, but I have heard plenty about them!  Not that I wouldn’t read them, it’s just that I really prefer cookbooks, health-related books and, well, murder mysteries!  ;-)  So this “50 Shades” cookbook is right up my alley!

The first thing that grabbed my attention when I opened the book was the table of contents.  With chapter titles such as “Submit To Her Charms” and “Morning Quickies”, I couldn’t wait to see what kale delights lie ahead!  Since my only experience with kale has been kale chips and kale smoothies, I admit I didn’t really know what else to do with the bitter, green veggie.  Boy, did I learn a lot!

Some of the recipes I’d like to try are:

  • Huevos Rancheros
  • Grilled Cheese ‘n Kale
  • Chicken Enchiladas
  • Beef and Kale Tacos
  • Chocolate Kale Fudge Pops (yes!)

Not only are there great recipes and stuff to make you giggle in this cookbook, but also tantalizing photos!

“Fifty Shades of Kale: 50 Fresh & Satisfying Recipes That Are Bound to Please” can be purchased through  Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.

Review and Giveaway! Goddess Garden Organics All Natural Sunscreen

Wednesday, July 17, 2013.  This giveaway is now over.  Thanks for all of your comments!  The winner has been randomly chosen and notified by email.  Congratulations Darlene S!

Summertime means more time in the beautiful sunshine.  Laying by the pool, hiking, biking, gardening and more!  All of the extra time in the sun can, unfortunately, mean more sun damage for your skin.  Most dermatologists recommend wearing sunscreen EVERYDAY, even when you’re not in the sun!

So what happens if you are sensitive or allergic to the chemicals in “normal” sunscreens?  What if you don’t want to cover yourself with those chemicals everyday and are looking for a more natural alternative?

Goddess Garden Organics All Natural Sunscreens can help!  First, a little about how Goddess Garden began.

From the Goddess Garden website:

Goddess Garden, a Boulder-based skincare company, was founded in 2004 by Nova Covington, entrepreneur and mom. As a new mother, Nova was inspired to create organic skincare products initially for her daughter Paige, who was allergic to chemicals in traditional bath products. Motivated to develop safe skincare solutions, Nova launched natural products using pure minerals zinc oxide and titanium dioxide as the active agents for sun protection — the highest organic content of any sunscreen on the market.

Goddess Garden Organics All Natural Sunscreen is non-greasy and sheer, unlike a lot of other natural sunscreens I have tried.   These sunscreens are gluten-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free and non-GMO.  They do not contain animal products and are not tested on animals so they are cruelty free!

I really love these sunscreens.  They have a pleasant smell and soak into your skin without feeling greasy or leaving a white residue.

You can purchase Goddess Garden Organics All Natural Sunscreens easily from their online shop HERE or from several other online stores, such as Amazon.com!  You can also find a store near you using the Store Locator HERE.

Would you like to try Goddess Garden Organics All Natural Sunscreens for FREE?

I am so happy to be able to offer one of each of the same products I received for review, Sunny Body and Sunny Kids, to one very lucky reader!

This giveaway will run from today (Wednesday, July 10, 2013) until Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 4pm Pacific Time.

The winner will be contacted by email.

Does your little one need a little coaxing to get into the bathtub?  Do they love LEGOS?   Carleigh Pearce, Owner of Ellison’s Organics has just the thing for you!

From Ellison’s Organics Etsy Site:

“Does your little Lego-lover despise getting washed up?  These unscented Lego soaps are sure to attract even the messiest engineer to the sink or tub.  Place some of these by the sink and just watch the suds start to roll off those sticky hands.

Great as gifts, birthday party favors, potty-training incentives, and equally fun for the little or big kid.”

Carleigh is a young mom and a small business owner of Ellison’s Organics (name after her two boys, Elliott and Harrison .  She started EO when Harrison was born and in the NICU.  He tried so hard to grow that just couldn’t put any chemicals onto his tiny body.  After researching organic soap and finding out how expensive it is, Carleigh wanted to make an affordable option for other parents that want to provide their children with the best, most natural ingredients, but without the cost! These little Lego Man soaps are not only super cute, they are made of all organic ingredients and are unscented.  They are perfect for little hands to grab onto!

About Ellison’s Organics Meltaway Lip Balm :

“Do you want smooth, soft lips but don’t care for the shine from standard chapstick and lip balm?  If so, then Ellison’s Organics Meltaway lip balm is for you!  This soothing, moisturizing lip balm is specially formulated to penetrate your skin quickly, leaving nothing behind but healing and moisture.  It’s a great option for kids, as it doesn’t contain any chemicals, additives or scents!

To create Ellison’s Organics handmade Meltaway balm, three powerhouse ingredients are combined:  Organic Unrefined Shea Butter, Natural Pure Beeswax and Organic Virgin Coconut Oil.  The end product of this process is an incredibly gentle, natural, moisturizing balm, that won’t leave your lips reflecting any passers-by.

This balm offers soothing, natural relief for dry lips, elbows and cracked heels.  It is a gentle formulation that is soothing and moisturizing to your thirsty skin.  This product has only a natural, clean scent, with no added chemicals or preservatives.”

I really like this lip balm!  It’s so smooth and doesn’t leave a waxy film on your lips.  The lip balm has a very mild coconut flavor, which made me like it even more.

You can purchase Ellison’s Organics Lego Man Soaps, Meltaway Lip Balm and many other wonderful Natural Home and Body Products on Carleigh’s Ellison’s Organics Etsy Shop.   Carleigh is so fabulous that she has offered to giveaway one set of Lego Man Soaps and one Meltaway Lip Balm to one of our very lucky readers!!!

Review and Giveaway! SIMPLE SQUARES Whole Food Snack Bars

Tuesday, December 18th, 2012 by Lisa

Friday, December 21, 2012 at 5:30 pm PST.  This giveaway is now OVER.  Thanks to everyone for your comments!  The winner has been randomly chosen and notified via email.  Congratulations Winston!

Lisa Irvine writes at Lisa’s Blogety Blog. You can find her at @Lirvine98 on twitter. If you have an idea for a giveaway, please let her know!

I think I picked a bad month to start watching my weight.  I have the best of intentions, but there is just so much temptation at this time of year!  Cookies, candy, fudge.  Christmas cupcakes, donuts, sweet coffee drinks (who me?).  Oh my!

Did you know that according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the average American consumes 156 pounds of sugar every year? Yikes!  A good portion of that sugar is consumed during the holiday season, when we are surrounded by sugary- sweet holiday treats.  Of all the foods we eat, refined sugar is considered to be one of the most harmful, causing series health risks such as inflammation and infection, compromising the immune system and raising insulin levels.

If you have an auto-immune disease like celiac disease, like I do, inflammation can cause a whole lot of issues.  But trying to stay away from sugar is hard for most of us.

Enter SIMPLE SQUARES!  Snack-enthusiast and Simple Squares’ founder, Kimberly Crupi Dobbins, offers a delicious and healthy alternative to holiday sweets.  Simple Squares are whole food snack bars made from just five ingredients: nuts, honey, vanilla, and hints of sea salt and herbs – that’s it.  Always free of wheat, gluten, dairy, soy and refined sugars. They are also organic, kosher and raw.

SIMPLE SQUARES are high in protein and other nutrients to keep you full and satisfied-so pumpkin pies and frosted gingerbread bread men won’t be a temptation.

I really like these bars.  Since I love coconut, you can probably guess that I would try the coconut bar first.  It was moist and chewy and delicious.  These bars are very portable and great to throw in your purse or car for a quick snack.

Simple Squares are available in a variety of flavors such as coconut, cinnamon-clove, rosemary, and sage.  (I also received a sample of coffee flavor which I think will be available soon.)

You can purchase them at simplesquares.com, Amazon or hundreds of retail outlets throughout the U.S.

Would you like to try new SIMPLE SQUARES?

I am pleased that founder Kimberly Crupi Dobbins is offering a mixed case of three bars of each flavor to one fabulous reader!

You may garner additional entries by:

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT FOR EACH ADDITIONAL ENTRY SO THAT I CAN BE SURE TO COUNT YOU.  THANK YOU!

This giveaway will run from today (Tuesday, December 18, 2012) until Friday, December 21, 2012 at 5pm Pacific Time.

The winner will be notified by email.

Good luck!
