Lilla Rose Hair Clip Review and GiveAway!

Friday, March 27th, 2015 by Stephanie O'Dea

lilla rose happy friday giveaway

4/4/2015: this giveaway is now over. Thank you to all who entered — a winner will be randomly selected and will be notified via email.

I am thrilled that it’s finally Friday.

We’ve had a Monster Cold this week, and I think it’s finally on it’s last legs. Thank goodness.

There’s nothing more pitiful than listening to a middle-of-the night chest cough —

I have a great give away for you today. Have you heard of Lilla Rose? I hadn’t until Melanie emailed me and asked if I’d like to try out a new type of hair clip.

These are BEAUTIFUL hair clips — and not like any I’d ever seen before.

lilla rose celtic cross hair clip

I have rather thick hair, and have been known to pop hair elastics and break metal hair clips. Melanie thought that I’d like how easy-to-use the Lilla Rose hair clips are, and how they will hold even the most stubborn-to-hold hair.

The best part for me is that there are no metal parts that bend on a hinge — so you have no risk of losing chunks of hair in the clasp. The patented clasp simply wiggles into place under the loop — it’s quite clever!

lilla rose owl hair clip

And SO VERY PRETTY. It really is hair bling — you can throw this on and do a simple tie back, or an updo, and have a put-together look, effortlessly.

I think the pricing is extremely fair — these are absolutely lovely and are packaged beautifully. I think they make fantastic gifts, too, for any upcoming birthday or Mother’s Day presents.

If you’d like to place an order, do so through This Link and make sure that Melanie’s name is on the order form so she gets the credit.

Melanie has graciously donated a hair clip to a lucky winner!

To enter your name into the giveaway, simply leave a message in the comment box.

You can enter multiple times, if you follow Lilla Rose on twitter

or facebook

Just be sure to leave me another comment for each entry so I can make sure that you are counted properly.

A winner will be randomly selected next Friday, April 3rd at 5pm Pacific.

I entered the @LillaRose hair clip #giveaway @StephanieODea, and you should too! Hair clip bling for everyone! “Tweet: I entered the @LillaRose hair clip #giveaway @StephanieODea, and you should too! Hair clip bling for everyone!

Good luck to all, and thank you again to Melanie and to Lilla Rose!

Smile Brilliant Review and GiveAway!

Thursday, January 8th, 2015 by Stephanie O'Dea

This contest is now over. A winner will be randomly selected and notified via email. Thank you! –steph

It’s the beginning of the brand new year, and that means it’s time to better yourself.

Isn’t that what we’re supposed to be doing? We’re supposed to exercise, sleep more, give up sugar, stop eating nachos every night at 9pm while binge-watching The Good Wife (wait, is that just me?), and all in all just BE BETTER.

It can be kind of exhausting, which is why most New Year’s Resolutions have already been discarded.

But. If your New Year’s Resolution this year was to look younger and finally get your teeth whitened, you’re in luck. Because whitening your teeth? You can TOTALLY DO IT FROM THE COUCH while binge-watching The Good Wife.

I was offered a free trial of Smile Brilliant’s Professional Whitening System for review and I have another pack (value $139) for a giveaway item.

This is kind of a cool system — in order to whiten your teeth, you first need to make a mold of your teeth. I like that each kit is customized for each and every mouth — this really gets the whitening gel into the nooks and crannies. Since I had just whitened my teeth the boring way (strips) not all that long ago, I decided that Adam could really use some whiter teeth.

He actually wasn’t all that happy with me deciding that he needed whiter teeth. I’ve got to work on my delivery.

Anyway, I made the form mixture and had him bite into it. I dropped the mold into the padded pre-addressed and pre-paid envelope that comes with each kit and a few days later we had beautifully crafted silicone trays that fit his teeth perfectly.

teeth molds

The kit comes with 3 tubes of desensitizing gel, and 3 tubes of teeth whitening gel. The idea is to use the desensitizing gel first for about 20-30 minutes, and then follow-up with the whitening gel.

You can use the whitening gel anywhere from 30 minutes up to 3 hours. You’ll drool a lot — keep a towel handy.

I like that this is a one-time thing. Yes, 3 tubes of each came, but unless your teeth are quite dark and stained, most surface stains from coffee and wine will be removed after just one application. I can see using this about every six months or so for maintenance.

The one-time thing is important, because with the whitening strips on the market, you really do have to plan in advance if you have an event or special occasion coming up. It would take the full 7-10 days of the strips to get the level of whitening that Smile Brilliant is able to achieve in just one sitting.

That’s completely worth the price for me — and while the kit costs a bit upfront, the $139 price includes 3 applications and the refills are available on the website. (warning, there is a live chat that pops up when you look at their website that’s kind of annoying).

NOW. This is where anybody NORMAL would insert a before and after photo of their teeth. And if I did it myself, I’d include this.

BUT. I married Adam, and Adam is not all that into posting photos of his teeth on the internet. So you’re just going to have to take my word for it that it works.

Are you ready for a giveaway? I have one set (value $139.95) of the Smile Brilliant Professional Teeth Whitening System to giveaway to you today.

This giveaway will be open for 10 days — I’ll close it on Monday, January 19th at 5pm Pacific.

To enter, simply leave a comment below — if you’ve tried teeth whitening products in the past, I’d love to hear your stories — but that’s up to you!

If you’d like to garner an additional entry, you can by signing up on Smile Brilliant’s website

Happy 2015! xoxo steph

$500 GiftCard GiveAway from Peapod Grocery Delivery

How Slow Cooking Helps with The American Dream

I just returned from the BlogHer PRO annual conference. And by “return,” I mean that I returned to my coffee-splattered desk at the back of the house and I returned to pajama pants and fuzzy slippers.

But! For TWO WHOLE DAYS I wore “big girl clothes” and “big girl shoes” and made conversation with real actual adults and we didn’t talk about carpool or band practice or whether or not we remembered to move the gosh darn Elf on the Shelf.

It was wonderful.

While I was listening to the speakers, I started thinking about what I do online, and why I am so drawn to slow cooking.

and I sort of had an epiphany. In a teeny tiny miniscule way, I’m sort of helping other people achieve just a tiny slice of The American Dream.

Because I can help get dinner on the table in a quick, efficient, and non-stressful way. And at the end of the day all we really want is to sit around a dinner table with our family (or stand around a crockpot and shovel food in our mouths; whatever) and then turn off our brain and chill.

Am I over-glamorizing the slow cooker? Probably. But hey, this is who I am!

[this is a sponsored post by Peapod]

peapod logo

Choosing What to Out Source

Another big theme at the BlogHer PRO conference was deciding what your worth was, and what was worth your time. The gist was: if it’s not worth your time, outsource.

The tricky thing with outsourcing though, is that in many ways you need to have the funds to hire your outsourcee (is that a word? spell check is mad at me). I hate spending money. That’s why slow cooking is so appealing to me — it forces me to plan ahead, which in turn saves money at the grocery store because I only need to go once a week, and I can shop the circulars.

But in a way, by choosing to slow cook, I’ve sort of already outsourced dinner.

[I know. I’m a bit weird in that I bring everything back to slow cooking. stay with me…..]

There are a few things I won’t outsource. I like to answer my own emails, and I like watching my own kids. But you know what I could outsource?

That weekly grocery store trip.

And so I was THRILLED when I got an email from Peapod telling me about their slow cooker recipe board on Pinterest, and how they were hoping I’d entice all of you to upload your recipes.

Their goal is to create the World’s Largest and Best Slow Cooker Pinterest board —– and as a thank you, they will enter you to win a grand prize of a $500 Peapod delivery gift card.

peapod slow cooker contest

This is it. This is life. We have to get up every morning, and we have to go to work, and we have to make dinner, and we have to do the laundry.

But pushing the shopping cart down the aisle? Eh. Let somebody else do that. Your time is valuable — and SOMEBODY has to sit on the couch with a bag of chips and watch True Tori!

[ps, it’s not real, right? the whole show has GOT to be staged, right?]

Go to Peapod’s facebook page, and follow the directions to upload a photo and recipe link to a favored slow cooker recipe. If it’s from your own site, THAT IS AWESOME, but since this is going straight to Pinterest, it’s perfectly okay to pin something from anywhere on the web.

Next, follow the Peapod Slow Cooker Board.

Each week, Peapod will award FIVE $50 giftcards, and everybody who enters will be entered into a pool to win a grand prize giftcard of $500.

(did you know that when I talk in real life, I say “hashtag” outloud? —– I’m beginning to annoy myself.)

I hope you had a VERY happy Thanksgiving, and thank you so much for playing along!

Jord Wooden Watch and Jamberry Nail Wrap GiveAway!

Friday, November 7th, 2014 by Stephanie O'Dea

jord watch and jamberry nail wraps

This contest is now over. Thank you to all who entered! Winners will be notified via email. thank you again! steph

It’s Friday! We made it!!

Item #1  Jord Watch, a Wooden Watch — 1 Winner

I have a fantastic prize package today with 3 winners. I was contacted by Jord Watch a few weeks ago to test out a wooden watch. I don’t normally wear watches, but instead rely on my phone to tell

But part of my New Year’s Resolution for this past year (which is almost over, sigh) was to become “more of a grown-up”, and it appears that Real Grown Ups wear watches.

I love this watch. It’s bigger than something I’d pick out on my own, but that’s because I absolutely stink at knowing what works fashion-wise and what doesn’t. It’s absolutely PERFECT and classy and is definitely a Statement Piece. I needed to go get it sized at the watch place in the mall — and I’m glad I did that rather than fool around with a mini screwdriver on my own — the watch is super well-well made and I would have messed it up.

This is probably one of the nicest pieces of jewelry I own, outside of my wedding ring.

Paul, from Jord Watch has graciously agreed to give away a Jord Watch to one of you, too, so we can be Twinnies!

He said that a winner will receive a $129 gift certificate to pick out a watch and also receive Free Shipping.

steph watch

This is the one that I picked out, but their website has quite a few options. The gift certificate is for $129 though — if you’d like a fancier one, you’ll have to pay the difference.

If you are looking for a Holiday present for a special someone this year (or you are shopping for yourself, because HEY, you deserve something cool!) I’d highly recommend Jord Watch. The watches are so very well made, and are really very cool looking.

ITEM # 2 — Jamberry Nail Wraps Set — 2 Winners

As I mentioned up above, I’ve been trying to be More Grown Up this past year, which means at the ripe age of 38-in-three-weeks I need to really stop biting my nails when I’m nervous or anxious. It’s been a life-long habit, and one that I’m kind of embarrassed about.

I can go weeks at a time without biting, but then something happens and I forget and all of a sudden I’m spitting DNA out all over the living room.

Gee, Steph, that’s a lovely image…

ANYHOW, I get my nails done here and there for special occasions or for when I’m going to be on TV or doing some sort of food demonstration. Which really only means that 4 times a year or so my nails look decent.

ENTER Jamberry Nails.

These things are awesome. If you aren’t familiar, they are Nail Wraps that you attach to clean nails and then use heat (a hair dryer) to get them to adhere. FOR A SUPER LONG TIME.

nails 1

What I love about them is that I can be crazy rough on my hands and nails  (here I am after painting the upstairs bathroom):

nails 2

but the Nail Wraps stay on and stay looking great. I am definitely the type of person who chips her nails while getting into the car after paying to get them done.  I like that I can wash dishes, garden, open soda cans, etc. and at the end of the day the nail wraps still look pretty darn good.

And they are economical. One sheet of wraps costs about $15 and they are good for 2 manicures AND 2 pedicures, with a few extra strips in case you mess up or need a new one.

that is SUCH a super value.

It’s wonderful!

The colors show up differently on your computer screen than they do In Real Life. My nails above are with Boysenberry — which on screen looks lighter than what it is — which is a perfect deep burgundy, which is awesome for fall.

My friend Jen is a Jamberry Consultant (you know Jen from A Year of Cocktails) and she is happily giving away 2 sets of Jamberry Nail Wraps for you today — each worth $15.

If you are a lucky winner, I’ll get you in touch with Jen to pick out your new wraps! If you aren’t a winner, but would still like to order the wraps, you should! They are fun and make fantastic stocking stuffers!

I have 3 winners that I will select randomly in 10 days — this means that this giveaway will run from today until Monday, November 17 at 5pm pacific.

The first winner randomly selected (I use a software program to pick the winner(s) ) will win a Jord Watch, and the second and third winners will receive a free manicure and pedicure from Jamberry Nail Wraps.

You may gain additional entries by sharing this GiveAway socially on your favorite channels (twitter, facebook, pinterest) —

Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker and Lid Pocket GiveAway!

Monday, November 3rd, 2014 by Stephanie O'Dea

ham beach set n forget

This contest is now OVER. Thank you to all who entered! Winners will be contacted through email. Stay tuned for more fun stuff! — steph

It’s November, which means it’s time to get ready for the upcoming winter Holidays, and it’s time to get serious about gift-giving!

I have a fantastic giveaway for you today. I’ve written before how much I love the Hamilton  Beach Set n’ Forget slow cooker. It has all of the features I look for in a slow cooker: it’s programmable, it cooks evenly, the cooking steam/moisture stays in the pot instead of dissipating into the air, and it looks nice on the kitchen countertop.

and? it’s a great price. Amazon regularly sells the Set n’ Forget for about $45.

But that’s not all for this prize package! I also have a Lid Pocket to add to today’s giveaway. The Lid Pocket is a fantastic invention by my friend Vicky Braun. The lid pocket fits on most 3 to 6-quart slow cookers (it doesn’t currently work with the Ninja) and is designed to keep your kitchen countertop clutter-free and drip-free when scooping food from the pot. This is FANTASTIC if you entertain with your slow cookers the way I do. It’s always a challenge to figure out where to keep the lids!

The lid pocket sells on Amazon for $10, or you can order directly from

lid pocket2

lid pocket

The lid pocket simply hooks on to the side of the pot and when you are ready to serve it snugly holds the lid in place. This is a wonderful gift for the slow-coookerer in your life that you think has EVERYTHING — chances are he/she NEEDS this new invention!!

I am happy to have partnered up with Hamilton Beach and Vicky from Lid Pocket to give away a prize package for you today of 1 Hamilton Beach Set n’ Forget, and 1 Lid Pocket to a lucky random winner.

To enter, simply leave a comment in the box below. I will randomly select a winner in 10 days — you have until

Thursday, November 13th (5pm pacific)

to win this contest, and I will allow multiple entries if you Tweet about this post or share on Facebook.

I entered to win the @HamiltonBeach and @LidPocket #GiveAway on @stephanieodea and you should, too! Tweet: I entered the @HamiltonBeach @LidPocket #GiveAway via @StephanieODea. You should, too!

Good luck, and thank you again to Hamilton Beach and Lid Pocket!
