Review and Giveaway! “The Paleo Chocolate Lover’s Cookbook” by Kelly V. Brozyna

"The Paleo Chocolate Lover's Cookbook" by Kelly V. Brozna. The perfect gift for your chocolate-loving friend or family member! Enter to win a free copy at StephanieODea.com! Giveaway runs 12/13/13 - 12/20/13.

Friday, December 20, 2013.  This giveaway is now over.  Thanks so much for your comments!  I enjoy reading them!  The winner has been randomly chosen and notified by email.  Congratulations Laura!

Happy Friday!  I love that I get to end the week with chocolate!  :-)

Doesn’t the  picture on the cover of this cookbook look enticing?  It sure does!   This is Chocolate Crepe Cake with Coconut Cream.  It’s just one of the many delicious recipes in “The Paleo Chocolate Lover’s Cookbook” by Kelly V. Brozyna.

Kelly Brozyna is well know for her blog The Spunky Coconut, where she shares her wonderful Paleo, gluten-free, dairy-free recipes.  She is also the author of “The Spunky Coconut Cookbook”, “The Spunky Coconut Gluten-Free Baking and Desserts” and  “The Spunky Coconut Dairy-Free Ice Cream”.  Kelly has celiac disease, while her daughter is allergic to gluten and has autism.  She has found, like so many others, that her family’s health depends on a very healthy, grain-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, Paleo diet.

While Kelly doesn’t suggest that the chocolate treats in her book be eaten everyday, she believes that healthy desserts can be an important part of your diet.  After all, chocolate has many health benefits including lowering blood pressure and releasing those feel-good endorphins!

Now, on to the recipes!  Here is a sample of what you will find:

  • Chocolate Swirl Cheese Danish Cake
  • Chocolate Chunk Buttermilk Muffins
  • German Chocolate Cake
  • Macadamia Brownies
  • Lava Cakes
  • Black Forest Cupcakes
  • Birthday Cookie Cake
  • White Chocolate Dipped Macadamia Biscotti
  • No-Bake Chocolate Chip “Peanut Butter” Cookies
  • Salted Caramel Bacon Bark  (Yes.  That’s what I said.)
  • Chocolate Truffles

There are so many more!

The beautiful photos in this book were taken by Kelly herself!

The book everyone is talking about! Enter to win a copy of "The 21 Day Sugar Detox" by Dian Sanfilippo, BS, NC! Giveaway at StephanieODea.com runs 11/27/13 - 12/4/13.

Wednesday, December 4, 2013.  This giveaway is now over.  Thank you for all of your comments!  The winner has been randomly chosen and notified by email.  Congratulations Lili!

Lisa Irvine writes at Lisa’s Blogety Blog. You can find her at @Lirvine98 on twitter. If you have an idea for a giveaway, please let her know!

I’m very excited about today’s giveaway.  Everyone I know has been talking, tweeting and facebooking about this book!

At first, I thought that this probably wouldn’t be a good time to review “The 21 Day Sugar Detox”, by Diane Sanfilippo, with the holidays coming up and all of the yummy holiday food that goes along with this time of year.  Then I thought, what better time to review this book?  We will all know exactly what to do once the holidays are over!

Many people I know suffer from an addiction to sugar.  Full confessional: count me as one of those people.  I’ve been hooked on sugar and carbs ever since I can remember.  My biggest downfall is candy.  Even though I know it’s not good for me, I feel like I need to have something sweet during the day,  just to keep me going!

So, when I heard about “The 21 Day Sugar Detox”, I knew I had to check it out.

Does the name Diane Sanfilippo sound familiar to you?  Her first book, “Practical Paleo” is a 29-week New York Times Best Seller!  You can check out her website, Balanced Bites.

“The 21 Day Sugar Detox” has three different plans to help you lose your sugar cravings.  Each plan, or level, tell you what foods you should eat and what not to eat during your 21 day detox period.  You level is determined by taking a short quiz before you start the program.  Each level has it’s own meal plan with recipes for each of the 21 days.  There are even modifications for pescetarians, pregnant and nursing moms, those who are very active and need more carbohydrates, and modifications for those with autoimmune conditions.

The recipes look delicious!   There is definitely a lot of good things to eat on this plan.  Some of the recipes included are:

  • Pumpkin Pancakes with Vanilla Bean Coconut Butter
  • Buffalo Chicken Egg Muffins
  • Mini Mexi-Meatloaves
  • Italian-Style Stuffed Bell Peppers
  • Seafood & Chorizo Paella

MyPixImage (177)

There are even some “Non-Sweet Treats” like Vanilla Bean Coconut Freezer Pops, Banana Coconut Ice Cream and Apple Cinnamon Donuts!

MyPixImage (178)

You can purchase “The 21 Day Sugar Detox” easily on Amazon.com!

I am happy to be able to giveaway one copy of “The 21 Day Sugar Detox” to one lucky reader!

Trying to prepare healthy, quick Paleo meals for your family can be daunting.  That’s where Author Tammy Credicott’s new book, “Make Ahead Paleo: Healthy Gluten-, Grain-, & Dairy-Free Recipes Ready When & Where You Are” comes in!

Nobody likes coming home after a busy day at work, only to find that they need to start a meal from scratch in order to get dinner on the table.  I don’t know about you, but some nights, I’d rather just pop a frozen dinner in the microwave!  Unfortunately, that’s not always the healthiest choice.  Wouldn’t it be nice to have a meal ready in the fridge or slow-cooker?

From the inside cover of  “Make Ahead Paleo”:

In “Make Ahead Paleo”, you’ll find:

  • Recipes and tips for whipping up freezable meals
  • Inventory sheets to help you keep track of your frozen creations
  • Delicious timesaving recipes for your slowcooker
  • A busy work-week menu with full grocery list
  • Recipes to take on the road
  • One-pan meals you can make in your hotel room
  • Sweet indulgences that freeze and travel well

There a lot of things I like about this book.  I like that Tammy shares her tips and tricks for cooking, making meals ahead and more.  I really like the way the book is laid out by Make & Freeze, Low & Slow, On the Go, Room Service, Travel Treats and Week in a Day.  So easy to find what you are looking for!  I also like that there are grocery lists and freezer inventory sheets in the back of the book.  Very user-friendly!

Some of the great recipes you can find in “Make Ahead Paleo” are:

  • Chocolate Cinnamon Sweet Potato Waffles
  • Sausage Stuffed Portobellos
  • Fajita Burgers
  • Coq au Vin
  • Bacon & Onion Roast
  • Sweet ‘n’ Smoky Deviled Eggs
  • Best Ever Chicken Strips
  • Br-Egg-Fast Hot Dogs
  • Pumpkin Pie Bars
  • Elvis Muffins
  • No-Bake Sunbutter Bars

Special 3-Day Halloween Giveaway! “Willie Villie Meets Casey Kramps in Sprueville” by Elena Torsiello PLUS A Halloween Basket Full of Gluten-Free Goodies!

MyPixImage (152)

Friday, October 25, 2013.  This giveaway is now over.  Thanks so much for all of your comments!  The winners have been randomly chosen and notified by email.  Congratulations Amy and Sara L.!  Enjoy your goodies!!!

Lisa Irvine writes at Lisa’s Blogety Blog. You can find her at @Lirvine98 on twitter. If you have an idea for a giveaway, please let her know!

Boo!

It’s that time of year again, when the little ghosts and goblins are wandering the neighborhoods looking for candy!

While Halloween is a lot of fun for most kids, it can be a really scary time of year for a kid with Celiac Disease.  Parents of kids with Celiac or any other food allergy or intolerance can tell you that making sure your child doesn’t eat something that will make them sick can be very challenging.

Explaining to a child who has been diagnosed with Celiac Disease or Celiac Sprue, can be difficult.  Little ones don’t always understand why they can’t eat the same foods as their friends and classmates.

Author Elena Torsiello’s new kids’ book, “Willie Villie Meets Casey Kramps in Sprueville: A Book About Celiac Disease”, can help a child understand their diagnosis and feel better about their new lifestyle.

“Willie Villie Meets Casey Kramps in Sprueville” is the story of a little boy named Casey Kramps, who has Celiac Disease.  He meets Willie Villie from the gluten-free planet, Spruton.  Willie helps Casey understand his new gluten-free diet.

I love that this book is fun to read as well as informative.  Kids will love it as well as adults who want to understand the gluten-free diet better.  Kids can share it with their friends, teachers, family members and other caretakers, so that they may understand why it is so important to follow the child’s special diet.

The book has great illustrations by Eileen Rothstein.

Williepage

I highly recommend purchasing this book for any parent of a child who is newly diagnosed with Celiac Disease.  It can be easily purchased from the Xlibris.com online bookstore.  There is even an e-book version!  You can also purchase “Willie Villie” on Amazon.com!

Elena is so wonderful, that she wanted to give away these two awesome Halloween baskets, along with a copy of her book, to two lucky readers!!!
