Monday, October 29, 2012 at 6:45 am PST.  This giveaway is now OVER.  Thanks to all who entered!  The winner has been randomly chosen.  Congratulations Jeanne!

Lisa Irvine writes at Lisa’s Blogety Blog. You can find her at @Lirvine98 on twitter. If you have an idea for a giveaway, please let her know!

I am always thinking of ways to save money.  I have been a stay-at-home mom for almost ten years and have had to find ways to cut back on our family’s spending in order to make the best use of the money we have.  One of the ways we try to save money in our house is by turning off electrical devices when we aren’t using them.  Turning off lights, televisions, unplugging video games and DVD players.  Sometimes it’s hard to remember to do this, especially for kids.  They play with the Wii and then just take off when they’re done, leaving mom or dad to unplug the device.

Now, with the Bits Limited Smart Strip Energy Saving Smart Surge Protector, these devices can be turned off AUTOMATICALLY!  How great is that?  Less energy dollars spent and less energy spent nagging!

I must confess that I do not do too well in the technology department.  In fact, sometimes I actually think technology “hates” me.  I’m always having to ask my hubby (and sometimes my 12 year-old) to bale me out.  This is why I was surprised at how simple this smart strip is to use.

My sample smart strip came with three different colored bulbs (blue, red, green) and some plug-ins to use to test my strip.  I plugged in the blue bulb into the blue “Control Outlet” on the strip.  This was to represent our television, which gets turned off when we aren’t watching it.  I plugged the red bulb into the red “Constant Hot Outlets” position.  This was to be our cable box, which should never be turned off, lest I want to miss DVR-ing an important show.  Lastly, I plugged the green bulb into the green “Automatically Switched Outlets” spot.  This represented our Wii console or our Blu-ray player, which should be turned off when not in use.   I turned the strip on.  All three lights lit up.

The Bits Limited Smart Strip Energy Saving Smart Surge Protector is configured so that when your “Control Outlet” device is turned off, the devices you have plugged into the “Automatically Switched Outlets” will turn off automatically.

To test this, I turned off the blue (television) bulb.  Just like that, the green (Wii console)  bulb went off as well!  The red (cable box) stayed on.  Eureka!

OK.  Now for some technical stuff:

“The Bits Limited Smart Strip Energy Saving Smart Surge Protector is made from recycled materials and can save $40 per year per surge protector.

Most people don’t realize even when a product is “off” it’s still pulling energy from the grid and costing them money.  This surge protector “virtually” unplugs your products when not in use.”

You can check out more technical specifications HERE.

I can see that this is going to work perfectly in our house and I’ll bet it will work perfectly in yours!

You can purchase the Bits Limited Smart Strip Energy Saving Smart Surge Protector ($29.95) directly from Bits Limited.

I am happy to be able to give away one of these great  Bits Limited Smart Strip Energy Saving Smart Surge Protectors to one lucky reader!
