"The Paleo Chocolate Lover's Cookbook" by Kelly V. Brozna. The perfect gift for your chocolate-loving friend or family member! Enter to win a free copy at StephanieODea.com! Giveaway runs 12/13/13 - 12/20/13.

Friday, December 20, 2013.  This giveaway is now over.  Thanks so much for your comments!  I enjoy reading them!  The winner has been randomly chosen and notified by email.  Congratulations Laura!

Happy Friday!  I love that I get to end the week with chocolate!  :-)

Doesn’t the  picture on the cover of this cookbook look enticing?  It sure does!   This is Chocolate Crepe Cake with Coconut Cream.  It’s just one of the many delicious recipes in “The Paleo Chocolate Lover’s Cookbook” by Kelly V. Brozyna.

Kelly Brozyna is well know for her blog The Spunky Coconut, where she shares her wonderful Paleo, gluten-free, dairy-free recipes.  She is also the author of “The Spunky Coconut Cookbook”, “The Spunky Coconut Gluten-Free Baking and Desserts” and  “The Spunky Coconut Dairy-Free Ice Cream”.  Kelly has celiac disease, while her daughter is allergic to gluten and has autism.  She has found, like so many others, that her family’s health depends on a very healthy, grain-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, Paleo diet.

While Kelly doesn’t suggest that the chocolate treats in her book be eaten everyday, she believes that healthy desserts can be an important part of your diet.  After all, chocolate has many health benefits including lowering blood pressure and releasing those feel-good endorphins!

Now, on to the recipes!  Here is a sample of what you will find:

  • Chocolate Swirl Cheese Danish Cake
  • Chocolate Chunk Buttermilk Muffins
  • German Chocolate Cake
  • Macadamia Brownies
  • Lava Cakes
  • Black Forest Cupcakes
  • Birthday Cookie Cake
  • White Chocolate Dipped Macadamia Biscotti
  • No-Bake Chocolate Chip “Peanut Butter” Cookies
  • Salted Caramel Bacon Bark  (Yes.  That’s what I said.)
  • Chocolate Truffles

There are so many more!

The beautiful photos in this book were taken by Kelly herself!

Trying to prepare healthy, quick Paleo meals for your family can be daunting.  That’s where Author Tammy Credicott’s new book, “Make Ahead Paleo: Healthy Gluten-, Grain-, & Dairy-Free Recipes Ready When & Where You Are” comes in!

Nobody likes coming home after a busy day at work, only to find that they need to start a meal from scratch in order to get dinner on the table.  I don’t know about you, but some nights, I’d rather just pop a frozen dinner in the microwave!  Unfortunately, that’s not always the healthiest choice.  Wouldn’t it be nice to have a meal ready in the fridge or slow-cooker?

From the inside cover of  “Make Ahead Paleo”:

In “Make Ahead Paleo”, you’ll find:

  • Recipes and tips for whipping up freezable meals
  • Inventory sheets to help you keep track of your frozen creations
  • Delicious timesaving recipes for your slowcooker
  • A busy work-week menu with full grocery list
  • Recipes to take on the road
  • One-pan meals you can make in your hotel room
  • Sweet indulgences that freeze and travel well

There a lot of things I like about this book.  I like that Tammy shares her tips and tricks for cooking, making meals ahead and more.  I really like the way the book is laid out by Make & Freeze, Low & Slow, On the Go, Room Service, Travel Treats and Week in a Day.  So easy to find what you are looking for!  I also like that there are grocery lists and freezer inventory sheets in the back of the book.  Very user-friendly!

Some of the great recipes you can find in “Make Ahead Paleo” are:

  • Chocolate Cinnamon Sweet Potato Waffles
  • Sausage Stuffed Portobellos
  • Fajita Burgers
  • Coq au Vin
  • Bacon & Onion Roast
  • Sweet ‘n’ Smoky Deviled Eggs
  • Best Ever Chicken Strips
  • Br-Egg-Fast Hot Dogs
  • Pumpkin Pie Bars
  • Elvis Muffins
  • No-Bake Sunbutter Bars

I love this time of year.  The farmers’ markets are full of fresh fruits and vegetables.  Don’t you wish you could have all of the delicious, local produce all year long?

You can!

Author Marisa McClellan shows you how in her new book, “Food in Jars: Preserving in Small Batches Year-Round”.

I remember my grandmother, standing in the kitchen, canning tomatoes, making pickled cucumbers, delicious corn relishes and cinnamon apples!  It all looked so complicated to me as a kid and I admit I never even wanted to attempt it as an adult.

Now that I am older, I sometimes wish I had paid a little more attention to grandma!  Now that I have a copy of “Food in Jars”, I may give canning a try!

The best part of this book, is that Marisa gives you recipes for small-batch preserving.  I don’t have a big kitchen, so this would definitely work better for me!

I love strawberry jam, so the first recipe I want to try is Strawberry Vanilla Jam.  YUM!!!

MyPixImage (126)

There are too many great recipes inside this book to list them all, but here are a just a few.

  •  Spiced Plum Jam
  • Small Batch Mixed Stone Fruit Jam
  • Honey Lemon Apple Jam
  • Mulled Cider Jelly
  • Apple Pumpkin Butter
  • Cranberry Conserve
  • Rhubarb Chutney
  • Tomato Ketchup
  • Pickled Zucchini
  • Bread-and-Butter Pickles (my favorite!)
  • Roasted Corn Salsa
  • Caramelized Red Onion Relish

Don’t they all sound yummy!

MyPixImage (128)

This is a lovely, hardcover cookbook full of wonderful photos.  You can  also check out Marisa’s blog HERE for lots of canning ideas!

Review and Giveaway! Mohawk Valley Trading Company Products

Wednesday, September 18th, 2013 by Lisa

MyPixImage (104)

Wednesday, September 25, 2013.  This giveaway is now over.  Thank you for all of your comments!  The winner has been randomly chosen and notified by email.  Congratulations Zhaleh!

Lisa Irvine writes at Lisa’s Blogety Blog. You can find her at @Lirvine98 on twitter. If you have an idea for a giveaway, please let her know!

You know how Oprah has her list of “favorite things”?  Well, if I had my own list of favorite things, raw honey and maple syrup would be on it!

I love honey and maple syrup so much that I eat them everyday.

So when Mohawk Valley Trading Company offered to send me some of their products for review, I was so excited!  I can tell you that since the package arrived, I haven’t been able to leave that jar of raw honey alone!!!

Sierra Exif JPEG

Mohawk Valley Trading Company Raw Honey  is delicious.  I eat it right from the spoon, spread it on my toast, or swirl some in my tea or coffee.  It is so thick and rich.

MyPixImage (108)

From the Mohawk Valley Trading Company website:

Raw honey advocates prefer unpasteurized honey because the pasteurization  process destroys delicate flavors and enzymes. It is assumed that raw honey is  healthier because it contains pollen, phytochemicals and active enzymes. People  with allergies often find consuming local honey provides a remedy.

So, I guess I’m hoping that all the raw honey I’m eating will help with my seasonal allergies!  ;-)

I also use honey instead of sugar in many of my recipes, so I can’t wait to try the Raw Buckwheat Honey for this.

MyPixImage (113)

This honey is dark and rich and would be great drizzled over vanilla ice cream or on a baking powder bisquit!  Yum!

Nothing tastes like Autumn more to me than maple syrup.  It is the ultimate cool-weather treat, served on waffles or pancakes.

MyPixImage (109)

In addition to their honey and maple syrup products, Mohawk Valley Trading Company has some lovely Castile and Lavender Goats Milk Soaps, Beeswax and Beeswax Candles!

You can find all of these great Mohawk Valley Trading Company products on their website!  They are also carried by select retailers such as  The Healthy Living Market.

I am very excited to be able to offer a lovely box of Mohawk Valley Trading Company’s products to one very lucky reader!  Included in your box will be:
