Review and Giveaway! “Salty Snacks” by Cynthia Nims

October 31st, 2012 by Lisa

Monday, November 5, 2012 at 5pm PST.  This giveaway is now OVER.  Thanks to all who entered!  The winner has been chosen and has been notified via email!  Congratulations Sara!  Enjoy your “Salty Snacks”!

Happy Halloween!  Hoping you are all doing well and have survived Hurricane Sandy!  Are you going Trick-or-Treating with your kids tonight?  Please be safe!  We have opted to stay home where it’s warm.  Our daughter has decided she’s “too old to go Trick-or-Treating” and wants to dress up and hand out candy to the little ones instead.   I couldn’t be happier! :-)

I have a really great cookbook review for you today.  It’s “Salty Snacks” by Cynthia Nims. Cynthia grew up loving salty snacks and has come up with some fabulous recipes in this book!  She writes her blog, Mon Appétit and has authored or coauthored thirteen cookbooks, including “Gourmet Game Night”,” Memorable Recipes”, and “Rover’s”.

Are you a salty snack lover?  When it comes to snacks, I usually go for something sweet instead.  My husband, however, will go for the chips or pretzels every time.  After looking through “Salty Snacks”, I’m thinking that these snacks will likely please both of us!

Some of the recipes I’m going to try are:

  • Parsnip and Carrot Chips
  • Spicy Tortilla Crisps with Queso Fundido (mmmm…cheese)
  • Salami Chips with Grainy Mustard Dip
  • Tempura Green Beans with Tapenade Dip (I’ve always wondered if you can make these with gluten-free flour.  You can!)
  • Onion Pakoras with Cilantro Sauce (think “bloomin’ onion” with a mexican kick!)

You can find a nice preview of “Salty Snacks” along with some sample recipes on Cynthia’s blog by clicking  HERE!

While this is not a gluten-free cookbook, there are MANY recipes using gluten-free flours such as white rice flour, chic pea flour, almond flour and cornmeal.  :-)

This would be a perfect gift for that salty snack lover on your list!!!

You can purchase “Salty Snacks” on, Barnes &, and is available for download on iTunes!

I am happy to be able to giveaway one copy of “Salty Snacks” to a lucky, snack food loving reader!
