Today’s review is a wonderful cookbook from Alissa Segersten and Tom Malterre of  Whole Life Nutrition.   You can find them on their blog,  Ali and Tom are Nutritionists who love to counsel families how to eat well, especially those with special dietary concerns such as gluten, dairy and soy intolerance and food allergies.

What first struck me about “Nourishing Meals”, is the wealth of information it provides regarding eating gluten-free, inflammation, the importance of digestive enzymes and nutrient deficiencies often associated with food allergies and sensitivities.   This information is written in an easy-to-understand format and their ideas can be incorporated into any family’s lifestyle.

My most favorite portion of this book, is the chapter on “Raising Healthy Children”.    There are so many tips in this section about how to feed your children healthy, whole foods and move away from processed, nutrient-void foods.  There’s even a section on “Packing a Healthy School Lunch”!

Then, there are the recipes!  This cookbook is chocked-full of healthy, delicious foods!  Some of the recipes I personally want to try include:


* Whole Grain Waffles

* Slow Cooked Beef Stew

* Quinoa Tabouli

* Roasted Whole Chicken with Root Vegetables

* Maple Pecan Pie  (Mmmm.  I especially want to try this one!)

  3. Love all the recipes you have on your website! I have been wanting to get this book for awhile. Both for myself, and to share with my family so we can all learn how to eat better! My sisters, my mother and myself have recently gone dairy and soy free, on top of being gluten free. It has been a real challenge to make meals that fit our food needs. I know this book will help us out a lot!
